Art Therapy

About

Our bespoke art therapy course, ran by ADSY Creative, is built upon the original cognitive behaviour therapy by Aaron T Becks in the 1960s.

ADSY’s loose and fluid interpretation of the five mental processes such as attention, learning, memory, language and emotion (Neisser 1967) used in cognition, has formed the premise of the experiential workshops designed with the aim to engage non-practicing creatives in a safe and open space, a space to step away from the busy, high pressured work environments of today’s fast moving corporate and non-corporate organisations.

Each workshop held creates unique experiential and creative encounters in a holistic and inviting environment. They are designed to allow individuals to re-engage with their thoughts, feelings and imaginations using their hands and tactile materials; ADSY’s CBT is mobile and can be held anywhere.

This is a very reflective experience for an individual while working within a group. It is presented as an alternative to our over digitised communication channels and social interaction with one another and the ever-increasing gap in human relationships through the exciting and creative medium of art.

The ‘Creative Behaviour Therapy’ Workshop is designed to tease the hidden or dormant creative in an individual based on the premise we are all born creative; participants are offered to write stories, use traditional calligraphy ink and pen, dabble in painting using artist quality acrylic paints and traditional hand drawing with charcoal or pencil on high quality art paper.

The workshop is unconditional, and unlimited in how it engages participants; its main purpose is to create an opportunity and an unique ‘space’ for individuals or groups to creatively tease out emotions, ideas, values and personal reflections through the medium of art.

The workshops are mobile and can be held in any space that is fit for purpose; they have been held in Italian restaurants, university learning hubs, participant homes and cafes. The venue is usually conformed by participant needs and constraints, another unbridled aspect of the workshop which allows uncomplicated and effortless access. ADSY’s CBT does not promise to make participants better or great artists and writers; it is an invitation to take time out, to recalibrate and exercise thoughts, ideas and feelings using the medium of art as a starting point.
